BEACH & WIND DIRECTION
Ballyheigue (Location = N52 23.298 W9 49.636) beach is located approximately 10 miles from Tralee and at the far end of the village. It is inaccessible by cars but has a promenade and car park at the village end of the beach. The beach is approx 2miles with firm sand but can be quite stoney with some seaweed. Also the tide does not go out that far.
Banna Strand, is located nearby between Ardfert and Ballyheigue and is ideal for buggying. It is 5km long and the tide goes out quite far. There is a car park and ramps down onto the beach.

ACTIVITIES

Kiting and particularly kite buggying is still quite uncommon in the area but has the potential to be a good spot for it. Ballyheigue is more populated so buggying on Banna Strand is preferred. We had an onshore breeze blowing which gave us the full run of the beach.

Ballyheigue beach is used for kite surfing and surfing.
Beside Ballyheigue beach is a golf course.
ACCOMMODATION

Ballyheigue offers hotels, B&B’s, hostel and camping. The hostel is not advertised and is only run on a word of mouth basis but has all the required facilities. We stayed in Casey’s Caravan and Camping park (066 7133195) located off the Main Street. It mainly attracts families and for this reason the owners are reluctant to let a group of young people camp. The facilities for campers are limited – only kitchen and toilet facilities. Banna Strand Hotel is located en route to the beach.

FOOD/PUBS/NIGHTLIFE

Ballyheigue has a number of watering holes to check out. Buses are also available for those wishing to go and check out the night life of Tralee, these buses run from 10pm at the weekends. Another nightclub is in the Banna Strand Hotel. Choices of restaurants in the area are limited – mainly take away’s so best to go prepared or eat in Tralee.

Ballyheigue has an ATM machine located in the Londis Shop.
