BEACH & WIND DIRECTION
Inch (Location = N52 08.309 W9 58.794) beach is located approximately 10 miles from Dingle heading towards Castlemaine. It is about 3 miles long and is perfect for buggying etc. Only the entrance is accessible by cars so the remainder is just firm flat sand. The tide goes out quite far so there is ample room for kite flyers and pedestrians. For convenience, there is also a shop at the entrance to the beach.
From Dingle, Castlegregory (Location = N52 15.388 W10 01.501) beach can be reached by driving over the scenic Connors Pass drive. Castlegregory beach is ‘C’ shaped and stretches from Stradbally up to the tip of the peninsula i.e. approximately 8 miles. It is accessible from different access points, a few of which enable cars to go directly onto the beach. Given the shape of the beach it can be used for buggying regardless of which direction the wind is blowing.

ACTIVITIES

Kiting and particularly kite buggying is becoming more popular on these two beaches as kite surfing and surfing are very common. Both beaches are quite popular with tourists but because both beaches are long there is plenty of room for all beach users.
An onshore wind is best for Inch beach and given it is a straight long run you can go for miles! Castlegregory is more flexible to varying wind directions but smaller runs on the beach would be need because of its shape.

There are a few golf courses in the Stradbally and Castlegregory vicinity.
ACCOMMODATION

For a larger selection of accommodation choices Dingle is the best. It offers hotels, B&B’s, hostel and camping. We stayed in the Rainbow hostel which also permits campers to use its grounds. The hostel has all the required facilities and is only a 15-minute walk from the town centre.

Accommodation in Inch, Castlegregory or Stradbally is limited to some camping, holiday homes and B&B’s (including Caherbla House 066-9158120 / caherbla@eircom.net). We camped beside Inch beach which is not a designated campsite but did have toilet / shower facilities onsite. Information regarding the campsite is available from the shop at the beach. In Castlegregory, we camped in the Anchor Caravan and Camping park (066 7139157) which is located outside the village. The Park is quite large but has excellent facilities for both campers and those with caravans.
FOOD/PUBS/NIGHTLIFE

Dingle is very popular for tourists and has much to offer in both restaurants and bars. Traditional Irish music is very common in the pubs. Recommended pubs include O’Flaherty’s and McCarthy’s bars.

In Inch, there is little choice, just the Strand Bar which also serves food.
Castlegregory village is bigger and has a selection of restaurants and pubs including
SIGHTS

Check out Connors Pass between Dingle and Castlegregory – spectacular scenery. Would also recommend doing the Dingle Peninsula drive around to Dunquin etc. Again on a good day the views don’t get much better than this.
