Duncannon is lovely quiet small coastal village located 15 miles south of New Ross. Kiting is a new sport there but already there are a few dedicated followers who are happy to share the beach with fellow kiters. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS. |
| It is a long and wide beach with firm smooth sand but it can be very wet in parts and there is also a little stream at the caravan park end of the beach so buggiers are advised to wear wet gear. The sand is ideal for sliding. It is accessible to cars and can get quite crowded in summer so watch out for sunbathers, pedestrians and vehicles |

Kiting both on land and water is a relatively new sight in Duncannon but the regulars have already made a name for themselves! The beach also attracts land yachts and surfers. Like most beaches it is best if an onshore wind is blowing, as buggiers will have the full run of the beach, otherwise buggying could be difficult especially in summer given the crowds.

Duncannon has a number of B+B’s but we rented a mobile home in the Duncannon Caravan Park for a very reasonable price.
The owners are mainly involved in selling caravans / mobile homes and so have only a limited number available to rent so booking may be advised in peak season.
Camping is not permitted on the grounds.
The site is walking distance from the beach and the village.---------------------------------- DUNCANNON CARAVAN PARK |
There are two main pubs in the village – Roches and the Strand Tavern. Roches became our local while there because it is definitely the livelier of the two and has bands or DJ’s playing at the weekend. One section of the pub also has a lovely open fire and trad music playing as well. The owner’s son Niall is also one of the local kiters. Beside Roches is Sqigl Restaurant which comes highly recommended but for more inexpensive food check out the Strand Tavern bar menu. There is also a disco in the local hotel at weekends which is apparently quite popular we preferred to stay in Roches.
There is no ATM in the village so go prepared.

The main attraction in Duncannon is a 16th century Fort which provides tours to the public and also houses an art collection and a small maritime museum. Just 10km away is the Hook Head lighthouse which is also open to the public daily.
Duncannon is also very close to the ferry which brings you across to Passage East in Co. Waterford and obviously from there you can visit Waterford city, Tramore, Dunmore East etc.
