Tramore, Co Waterford
Tramore, a typical seaside town with arcades and an amusement park is just 9 miles from Waterford City and is recommended for day-trippers, kiters, surfers and anyone who enjoys outdoor sports. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS
BEACH & WIND DIRECTION
Like Lahinch, the beach in Tramore has a promenade, car park and lifeguard station but that is where the similarities end. Tramore beach is 5km long with high sand dunes but it is also very stony particularly near the promenade so for a more sandy feel it is best to walk towards the other end of the beach.

ACTIVITIES

Tramore beach welcomes many outdoor water based sports including surfing, windsurfing and more recently kitesurfing. The onshore facilities are to be commended and include a surf centre providing shower and changing facilities and a few retail shops dedicated to water sports. Tramore is also host to some surfing competitions. There is also a skate park located beside the car park.
For land based kiters, the beach is less accommodating because equipment has to be brought (inaccessible by cars!) to the other end of the beach to avoid the stones and as a result buggiers have a shorter run of the beach.

Other amenities include a golf course and SPLASHWORLD which offers an indoor pool, slides etc.
ACCOMMODATION

Tramore offers a range of accommodation options such as hotels, B&B’s, hostels, and caravan and camping parks. We stayed in the Atlantic View Caravan and Camping Park with the aim to camp but due to bad weather we rented a mobile home instead for a very reasonable price. The park is well serviced with a shop, shower and kitchen facilities on site. It is also walking distance from the beach and the town centre.

FOOD/PUBS/NIGHTLIFE

Being a seaside town Tramore has a number of arcades and outdoor amusements which are open till late at night. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from, our favourite was the Hibernian which is host to many local bands who perform nightly. For after pub drinks it is advisable to go to Waterford City clubs or the local nightclub which located near the outdoor amusements.

SIGHTS

For a leisurely drive and a lovely pint head for Dunmore East especially if the weather is good. But for something more lively, visit the attractions of Waterford City.
